About me
My name is David J. Luke. I am a sociologist, a former accountant, and a higher education professional whose focus, broadly, is on cultivating and expanding inclusive spaces. As a sociologist, my approach to this work is to identify instances of exclusion or inequity and contextualize them within patterns of exclusion, inequity, or oppression within organizations to identify systemic solutions.
I have published a number of articles, book chapters, and a book on these topics and have spoken at numerous national and international conferences, including the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE), National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE), and the annual meetings of the American Sociological Association (ASA) and Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP). Additionally, I have spoken to various universities and organizations with audiences ranging from deans and academic leadership, university football team players and staff, and food service workers, and always relish these opportunities.
